450g plain white flour
1tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
350ml butter milk
1tsp salt |
|
Sieve the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt into
a large bowl. Make a well in the centre of the flour and pour
in the butter milk. Mix it altogether by hand then knead a couple
of times on a piece of Bake-O-Glide.
Shape into a ball and cut a cross on the top.
Put the Bake-O-Glide with the soda bread on it onto the Roasting
Oven Floor and bake for 15 minutes. Slide in the Cold Plain
Shelf and bake for a further 25 minutes or until the bread sounds
hollow when tapped underneath. Cool on a cooling rack. Serve
warm with butter. Great to serve with cheese and soups!
Conventional cooking time: pre heat oven to 200c and cook the
soda bread on a heated baking tray for 30-35 minutes or until
it sounds hollow when tapped as above.
